Alberta’s NDP respects the disability community’s call for “Nothing about us Without Us” and invite all to consult with Alberta’s NDP about creating a more accessible and inclusive future.
Alberta’s NDP recognizes accessibility as a human right. When Alberta’s NDP forms government, we will take immediate steps to create a framework allowing us to identify, remove and prevent barriers to access for all disabled Albertans.
Alberta is one of three provinces without accessibility legislation. This means disabled Albertans are more likely to face systemic barriers when accessing provincial programs and services.
Alberta’s NDP has identified six areas in which accessibility standards will be developed in consultation with the disability community. Those provincial areas include but are not limited to the following:
1. Built environment
2. Information and communication technology
3. Employment
4. Procurement of goods and services
5. Delivery of programs and services
6. Transportation and transportation infrastructure
Join MLA Marie Renaud with lawyer and disability activist Andrew Green on April 13th at 6:00pm for a 90-minute discussion and consultation around creating a barrier-free Alberta as we develop accessibility legislation.
